And 2012’s about over

And I had just gotten used to it being 2011…

Time is flying–too fast. So much has happened this year that my mind is on overload. I’m not complaining though because it’s almost all been wonderful. I’ve been fortunate this year. Good health for myself and for my family, good business, acquaintances who’ve turned into great friends, an abundance of single malt Scotch whisky, and my humble ol’ place was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. And one of the coolest things: my novel was accepted for publication! Writers AMuse Me Publishing accepted my historical mystery.

Yes, time’s zooming. I am fortunate what with all the terrible things that happen around the world. Looking ahead, 2013 is shaping up to be full of promise and wonderful things.

I only wish I could wave a magic wand for other souls to have such good fortune.

A bit about my novel and publisher

Hello world!

Blood Atonement is my historical mystery novel.  I’m so pleased to announce that it’s due to be released in Fall 2013 by Writers AMuse Me Publishing.

Here’s the draft teaser:  Missouri Territory, 1846: Driven by angry mobs, thousands of Latter-day Saints flee their homes in the eastern United States. They gather west of the Missouri River to wait out the winter and hope they survive hunger and disease.

A church leader unveils a shocking, divine revelation to teenage sisters Aveline and Frances Bowmore: they must marry married men. The specter of polygamy promises heaven.  Aveline and Frances feel compelled to obey. They become plural wives. The loss of each other’s support while faced with angry sister-wives and husbands they’d just met stretches their willpower to the breaking point.

Aveline’s world shatters when gentle Frances is brutally strangled. Grief-stricken, Aveline trusts the camp police chief to find the pious Mormon’s killer, but the chief stalls his investigation. She presses him and Frances’s husband for answers. Aveline’s husband orders her to cease—how dare she question men?

Time is running out to discover the truth about Frances’s murder. As spring approaches, the Saints prepare for the overland journey west to Zion. Aveline decides to quietly defy her husband. She discovers secrets of powerful men—secrets they don’t want revealed.
